We are thrilled to announce that Santander UK has been named the winner of the Celent Model Bank Award for Commercial Lending. This award comes after the bank underwent a digital transformation by utilizing the nCino Bank Operating System and other enabling tools. In partnership with nCino and other technology companies, the bank was able to replace 13 disparate systems and over 60 end-user computing systems with a cloud-based ecosystem.
“The Model Bank Awards recognize how banks are using technology to change the face of banking," says Patricia Hine, CTP and Head of Corporate Banking at Celent. She says:
"These banks should serve as an inspiration to others looking for strong examples of best practice implementation that will have a truly meaningful impact on business results and the industry overall. The entry from Santander UK clearly demonstrated this.”
Jonathan Holman, Head of Digital Transformation at Santander UK, led the initiative to redesign the operations of the bank’s commercial lending services with an overarching goal of guiding the bank through a complete digital evolution. Jonathan wanted to move away from in-house, proprietary software and towards a cloud-based solution. Salesforce was already in use at the bank for relationship managers and servicing, making nCino the ideal end-to-end solution for the bank’s commercial lending needs.
After partnering with nCino in early 2019, Santander UK quickly began the onboarding process to adopt the new system. Despite the impacts from the COVID-19 pandemic, the full nCino Bank Operating System went live May 2020. Since then, the bank and its customers have reaped many benefits. Solutions from nCino and other technology partners have removed 80% of the manual effort that previously existed in creating documents.
Moreover, by leveraging nCino’s state-of-the-art technology, Santander UK has been able to provide its customers a cutting-edge lending experience, including increased digital flexibility and faster loan origination and decisioning, ultimately improving the overall customer experience.
Santander UK has already made great progress from the first steps in their digital transformation and anticipate more as they continue to develop. The bank plans to further enhance their services with nCino’s product roadmap including AI-enabled credit risk decisioning, probability of default calculations and loan pricing, among other additional products.
Powered by nCino and other partners, Santander UK has streamlined processes and greatly improved operational efficiencies. This digital ecosystem and technology stack have fundamentally enhanced the bank’s SME, commercial and corporate banking services. Santander UK continues to develop and impress in this highly competitive industry. The bank is fully deserving of Celent’s Model Bank Award for Commercial Lending.
